About Me
Librarian at heart, Storyteller by vocation, Wench by nature.
Music
A grab bag of different stuff-- classical, classic rock, Renaissance music, some hard rock, folk... I even like a smidge of country (a very small smidge) and a pinch of Rap (tiny pinch).
Movies
The Mummy, Princess Bride, Mel Brooks movies, black comedies, Dogma, Divorcing Jack...
TV
Very little TV gets watched at my house aside from Stargate reruns and Ghost Hunters. The Sci-Fi channell and History channell are the most watched... then there's the Brit TV: Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Keeping up Appearances and Chef are tops on my list.
Books
Terry Pratchet, Neil Gaiman and Robert Asprin top my list. Rowling, Brooks, Weiss and Hickman, and Elizabethan Mysteries are faves unless I've got a book about Egypt in my clutches. Then just leave me alone once you've brought me my coffee.
Likes
Honest, open, mature people, and a good debate. The smell of a campfire, a good story, a cool faire day...and...DUH, A GOOD BOOK!
Dislikes
People who use made up words because they want to sound like they're intellectually superior. Normally, they haven't the brains to look up the word to see what it actually means, and use it incorrectly...thereby inspiring another idiot to use it incorrectly (because they're too important to look it up as well)...which purpetuates the use of words that are not words at all....
Bottom line...? If I hear you utter the words 'irregardless' or 'orientate' in my presence, I will slap you with a herring.
Hobbies
Reading, sewing, reading, singing off key, jewelry making (for garb), sewing, reading, disc golf, and blogging.
Vices
eh...how much space have we got?
Virtues
I'm.......em. er...
let me get back to you on that.

DRENCH A WENCH IS BACK THIS WEEKEND AT MIRF!
The Wonderous, wild and wanton Wenches of IWG Local 57 are at it again...This is the most fun you can have with a sponge! ...well.... in public, anyhow.
By popular demand, we're back with DRENCH A WENCH this weekend (9/13-14), at the Dueling Buckets Stage (across from the Jail - next to the Special Events tent).
As always, ALL proceeds go directly to the Susan G Comen for the Cure foundation, to fund Breast Cancer Research. Our time, supplies and enthusiasm are generously donated by the targets--I mean: Wenches.
Please join us for a bit of soggy fun this weekend and help us fight to keep full the bodices of wenches and ladies everywhere!
More Details to follow - Check your Broadsheet when you arrive at MiRF for Showtimes.
All over the news -- print, radio, TV-- it's there every day: how we're so outraged at the gas prices, and that we need to cut back.
Truck and SUV sales are dwindling, and hybrids and smart cars are gaining popularity because John and Susie Q Public don't like paying $4 and up for each gallon of gas.
People aren't taking long summer vacations -- prices of everything is going UP because of rising fuel costs...
Can someone tell me WHY there is still a half dozen motor sports that happen every weekend? NASCAR alone has scheduled 2-4 events per MONTH for the rest of the summer, and into the early fall. Then there's boat racing, motorcross, and all kinds of other gasoline powered vehicles that have races...
Fans cars, Trailers, motor homes, TIRES, the racing cars, etc etc etc... all using gallons and gallons of gasoline. Ok, so the racing cars might be really good on gas-- but if the race is a 500 mile circle, how much is really saved? And this goes on nearly every weekend.
So....the USA is hurting, huh? We're really suffering, right?
Right. When we start to curtail even some of these activities in order to actually make the attempt at saving fuel, then I'll beleive the US is serious about fixing this whole oil issue.
Priorities.... I know.
But until then, it'll just be your family, and my family, that has to cut back on our leisure activities.
or maybe it should have been: We've got cleavage, yes we do...etc?
We walked, we laughed, and we had a GREAT time. We got rained out, but not till the last couple of hours, so we survived the lion's share of the event.
And in the end, the IWG Local 57 Team -- a FIRST YEAR team, won the TEAM SPIRIT award for the West Chester Relay For Life.
Okay, they're nothing fancy, and they're certainly not perfect, but they'll do, and they should do well. I just have to stop myself before I can't fit them all in the car for the drive down!
The flags are to decorate our Relay Team 'campsite'.
I'm getting excited about the event, and seeing (or meeting in person) everyone, but not so much about the long drive. It's not really even the DRIVE, but the TIME it takes to get there.
If we leave on Saturday, to get there by noon, we'll have to leave here by 8 am. Then we'll be helping set up, and probably will have no time for a nap before the relay begins. Then on Sun, we'll be driving back, tired from the all -nighter.
Driving across OHIO. On I-75.
Ok. I have nothing against the people or the state, in fact, some lovely, wonderful people live there. Some of my very FAVORITE people live in OH.....but it's a DAMN BORING ASS drive up 75 through OHIO. I should know, I've done it a couple dozen times or more. Ohio never seems to end. No hills. No valleys. No scenery. Nothing. Blah. Boring. That dangerous kind of boring that can induce acute unfocused eyes and instantaneous drooling. The kind of boredom that leaves you babbling away about lobotomies (and wishing for one).
In fact, the only interesting thing I have EVER seen while driving in OHIO was the driver was playing his guitar behind the wheel as he passed us in the right lane. Yes, you read that correctly. And yes, he was using both hands. But his windows were up, so we don't know what song he was playing.
So....It's looking like a second night stay is probable. I'm not sure I want to stay an extra night away from home, but it seems the prudent thing to do at the moment. It would be a blast to have more time to spend with new friends, but we've spent so much time away from our house.... I like to sleep here more than anywhere else. And since Frank isn't going with me, I get to missing him, especially when I get tired. I have occasional problems sleeping knowing I'm far from home, and far from him.
Yep. Separation Anxiety. I haz it. At 39 years of age, no less.
But hey.... this is 'twoo wuv' we're talkin about. so don't be knockin it. :-)
Well, don't I just suck --- metaphorically speaking, of course.
So far, I've got a grand total of $2 to add to my Relay for Life donations. I've put out feelers every which way, and so far.... not so much luck.
I did manage to inspire Macko from the IBRSC forum to drop in a few bucks. (Thanks again, you fabulous Rogue!) That was certainly encouraging-- and actually, it's giving me the stregth to go forward and keep trying. Honestly, I'm not that good at hitting people up for dough in a one-on-one situation. I realize that. So I'm busying myself with casting nets here and there, and only somewhat surprised that I'm bring them back empty. I'm working on it, knowing the rest of the team is counting on me. I can't let then carry my lazy butt.
I imagine I could put the web address HERE on RENSPACE in the interest of inspiring a loverly people to make a donation, before I begin draggin my behind around to people personally to put out the collection plate. (Don't ask my why I didn't think of this before. D'uh! It was only OBVIOUS)
I shall therefore post the following with a hopefull mien:
There is only a few short weeks to go before our IWG Local 57 Team takes to the track in Ohio for the American Cancer Society RELAY FOR LIFE, and we're still short of our fundraising goal*. Please help us start out this faire season of fundraising right, and visit this page to make a donation to support our Relay Team:
You may have to cut and paste this in to your browser window. Once you get to our team page, you can click on my name to give me a donation that goes toward our team total, or just donate support for the team as a whole.
OR, you can still JOIN THE TEAM, and have fun walking with us!!
* Yes, the website says the 'goal' is $500, however Our team Leader, Gellis, advises us that the American Cancer Society wants each team to raise $1000. So, we're a smidgen over HALFWAY there. *
Not only are we running for OUR lives, but we're running for YOUR lives, and running for the lives of your loved ones. (*ok maybe we're WALKING instead of running, but you get the picture*) It's a worthy cause in care of a bunch of wenches who are willing to bounce around the track all night in a valiant effort to end Cancer forever.
There WILL be pictures.
And now, before I make a further nuissance of myself tootling for my charity, I shall be off to bed (eventually).
